Whitening
To have whiter teeth without negative effects on the hard tissues of the tooth.
Teeth whitening is a popular aesthetic treatment that, when done properly, assures long-term change of the teeth colour. Teeth will be whiter without negative effects on dental tissues.
Teeth whitening is a form of dentistry and should only be carried out by a dentist or a dental hygienist in dental practices or specialised centres. Professional whitening treatment involves bleaching: the whitening produced with bleaching products applied on teeth, eventually activated by a light or a laser. Before effecting any whitening procedure it is necessary to professionally clean the teeth to remove plaque, tartar (scaling) and stains.
The bleaching or “In-*chair teeth whitening”* is the most used professional technique carried out directly in dental practices.
Questa procedura sfrutta l’azione di agenti sbiancanti chimici ad alta concentrazione che possono essere o meno potenziati da specifiche lampade che ne favoriscono l’azione in profondità.
This procedure involves the application of whitening product directly onto the teeth which can be activated by special light or laser, to favour deep-acting effect.
Experts mostly use whitening products that contain concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (38%) and carbamide peroxide (45%). Home bleaching: the dentist realizes personalised soft silicone mouthguards, reproducing the exact shape of the dental arches of the patient. In other words, the dentist provides the patient with the same type of mouthguards used in the office to bleach with high-concentration carbamide peroxide. The mouthguards contain the right amount of whitening products- low concentration carbamide peroxide (usually vary from 10 to 20%)- and then they are applied directly on the teeth. The daily application may vary from 30 minutes to 4-8 hours (depending on the dentist direction), the treatment must be repeated for more or less a week to produce the desired effect (similar to the results obtained with the in-chair teeth whitening). Generally, the duration of the whitening effect is of 5 or 6 years, but periodic check-ups by the dentist are critical to ensure aesthetic success.
